Capel Mair Guided Walk

A thrilling walk for everyone with incredible views of the Castle, Abbey and Orangery below.

History

Known by many names over the years such as the Cryke Chaple, Hen Egwlys and Capel Mair, the place of worship, established circa 1470 was built as a place of worship for local peasents/yeomen who did not have the right to worship in the Abbey itself.  It is a grade 2 listed building situated on the Graig Fawr hillside. Translated the name means 'The chapel of St Mary on the hill' (Capel Mair ar y Bryn)

What Can I See?

On our walk to Capel Mair you will see many things including significant sights within the park. Mature beech and sweet chestnut trees surround the area. During autumn months deer feed on chestnuts and beech mast giving them an extra boost before the winter months. Fallen trees provide shelter for many insects and in particular Bracket fungi. This particular walk boasts impressive views of Swansea Bay, Margam Abbey, The  Orangery and the Castle below.
