Born in Liverpool Doreen moved to Port Talbot in 1974 and worked in a local comprehensive school for 20 years in many various roles including Reprographics Assistant, a Library Assistant and a Invigilator before retiring.
Doreen has met, and supported, the founders of 2 charities in Sri Lanka and Uganda for many years. She was encouraged to join the Friends of Margam Park 6 years ago and since then she has become a very active role in creating and co-ordinating many volunteer led activities of the group and liaising with Park Management. Doreen believes in delivering great customer services to park visitors and has taken an NVQ course in Customer Service.
Doreen continues to lead our children's activities section which has proven over the years to be both popular with visitors to the park throughout the year and very successful. One of Doreen's ambitions is to keep a clean and healthy environment for park visitors and used to also co-ordinate litter picking on site as well as organising a yearly group deep cleaning of Fairytale Land. Such is her passion for the environment that Doreen appeared on Iolo William's popular BBC1 show Welsh Parks. Doreen is a reliable organiser and gives 101% to any project she is involved with. She has mentored youngsters volunteering as part of their Duke Of Edinburgh Award and hopes to go forward by visiting schools to encourage the younger generation to get involved become more aware of their local environment and to promote Friends of Margam Park.
