Iron Age Hill Fort

A thrilling walk for everyone with incredible views of the surrounding area.

History

An Iron Age Hillfort, an area of about seven acres enclosed by a massive bank, which would have been topped by a wooden fence, a ditch and another smaller bank is established on Mynydd-y-castell. The hillfort was occupied by the Silures, an Iron Age tribe, who fought with the Romans from 48AD until 70AD. Recent geophys is hoping to discover more about the site.

What Can I See?

On our walk to the hill fort you will see many things. Mature beech and sweet chestnut trees surround the area. During autumn months deer feed on chestnuts and beech mast giving them an extra boost before the winter months. Fallen trees provide shelter for many insects and in particular Bracket fungi. This particular walk boasts impressive views of Swansea Bay and the Castle below.
